Who can benefit?

Just about everyone can gain a lot from discovering more about themselves through counselling and psychotherapy. Having the chance to explore your patterns of feelings, behaviour and experiences and memories which impact you and your relationships, has been proven to be transformative.

People often seek out counselling and psychotherapy when they are in emotional distress or have a specific issue they want to address.

Therapy during a crisis can help ease symptoms and enable you to get back to living the life you want.

However, the benefits of therapy can extend far beyond a time of crisis. Some people attend therapy when life is actually going pretty well, and they just want to gain more self-knowledge to help achieve their full potential.

Whilst there is no one situation that brings people to therapy, here are some scenarios that may lead you to seek emotional support:

  • You have long standing problems developing relationships with people.
  • You have a history of anxiety and depression that is becoming harder to manage.
  • You are questioning your sexuality or have some questions about your gender identity.
  • You have recently been bereaved or feel stuck in grief and are wondering when it will start to feel easier.
  • You experience social anxiety and find it hard to be around other people.
  • You have been having problems conceiving a child.
  • You have been suffering from postnatal depression.
  • You don’t like yourself and can’t see why others would want to be with you.
  • You are unhappy in your relationship and want to leave.

“I approached the counselling process with a certain level of trepidation and anxiety. However Alison was able to be supportive and reassuring, creating a safe environment. The sessions were undertaken at a pace I felt comfortable with and it was clear Alison was able to respond to my individual situation which was multifaceted. I found the process helpful and beneficial.I would be more than comfortable approaching Alison in the future should the need arise.” Anonymous, Glasgow
